# Send email using Mailchimp Transactional

> Learn how to send an email using React Email and the Mailchimp Transactional Node.js SDK.

## 1. Install dependencies

Get the [react-email](https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-email) package and the [Mailchimp Transactional Node.js SDK](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional).

```sh npm theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
npm install @mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional react-email
```

```sh yarn theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
yarn add @mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional react-email
```

```sh pnpm theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
pnpm add @mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional react-email
```

```sh bun theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
bun add @mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional react-email
```

## 2. Create an email using React

Start by building your email template in a `.jsx` or `.tsx` file.

```tsx email.tsx theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
import { Button, Html } from "react-email";

interface EmailProps {
  url: string;
}

export function Email({ url }: EmailProps) {
  return (
    <Html lang="en">
      <Button href={url}>Click me</Button>
    </Html>
  );
}
```

## 3. Convert to HTML and send email

Import the email template you just built, convert into an HTML string, and use the Mailchimp Transactional SDK to send it.

```tsx theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"vesper"}}
import mailchimpTransactional from "@mailchimp/mailchimp_transactional";
import { render } from "react-email";
import { Email } from "./email";

const mailchimp = mailchimpTransactional(process.env.MAILCHIMP_API_KEY || "");

const emailHtml = await render(<Email url="https://example.com" />);

await mailchimp.messages.send({
  message: {
    subject: "Hello world",
    from_email: "hello@example.com",
    to: [{ email: "hello@example.com", type: "to" }],
    html: emailHtml,
  },
});
```
